Sporadic Blogging

So much for last ever blog... :P

Hi guys,

So I thought I was done with my blogging - seeing as I'm on twitter (@icandyrose) now more than ever and everyone knows tweets are like micro-blogs. Or so I've been told. But it would seem some of you (you know who you are hehehe) won't just accept tweets as you want your "substantial interaction for your money, and not everyone is on facebook or twitter and want the blogs back".  Apart from my shock at this amazing discovery that not everyone is on facebook or twitter, I was even more amazed to think I finally know who the one person that reads my blog is (joke guys). I'm in a funny mood so laughter all round, get your glasses out and top up. It's on the house - the laughter that is. Hehe.

I love it when fans are quite funny... it's nice having fans in the first place ;)>

Okay what can I say, my apologies for not realising you actually liked the blog or even read it. Very few mention it. So it's back, but I can't promise you how often I will update it as I really don't know. So what's been going on since then?

Well, I was supposed to perform at the Burnbake Festival the weekend of the 10th of June - but due to some miscommunication, that never happened. Disappointed yes, but not defeated as ironically on the 10th of June, I secured my own radio show, On Air with Candy Rose, with ON fm 101.4. A London based Radio station, and I use my show to promote other unsigned London and U.K based Artists. You can listen to the podcast of the show by visiting my website, www.icandyrose.com. On my Pilot show, I featured up and coming artist, Shem (@allaboutshem) and I'm currently running a competition with Niji Magazine, (http://nijimagazine.com/?p=9648 and @NijiMusic) for the artists who will get to come into the studio.

On the 16th of June I performed at Chinawhite - which turned out to be my last gig of the year as I'm taking some time off gigging to relax, and work on other projects. Don't worry, it won't be forever, it's just a 6 months break from gigging. Unless you are some filthy rich so and so who wants to pay me a million for a private gig, in which case, I'm sure I can take a break from my break hehe.

On June 18th I had a fab interview with the guys at WDKK Radio which you can check out here: http://www.wdkkradio.com/artist-interviews/candy-rose/

and on the 21st of June I had a Live interview with Graeme of Leith FM (www.leithfm.co.uk), on the 22nd I got added to radio gets wild's playlist (www.radiogetswild.com),  and on the 25th of June I got published in Music Week Magazine with my song Now I'm Gone - taken from my latest release, Hooked On You EP (released 1st May, 2011) featured in the Music Week Presents Volume 9 CD. I was supposed to have my last gig of the year at the Icarus club on the 30th, but a combination of ill health and strikes, made that impossible.

July is shaping up to be a nice month. My song Hooked On You was included in the 117th episode of the Deuce Radio Show, which is broadcast on KWSS in the USA, Indie 104 which has over 150,000 daily listeners along with a large number of other FM, Digital and Internet stations around the world. You can check out the show here: http://deuceshow.podomatic.com/entry/2011-07-07T06_34_15-07_00.

I recently had a great interview with Diana Broomfield of WDGP Radio on the 16th of July which you can listen to here: http://wdgpradio.com/2011/07/ms-candy-rose/, I'm currently working on some remix and collab projects as well as cooking something up with Shelter - the charity everyone should know by now I support. Check out what they do here: www.shelter.org.uk

I have also added some new videos to my youtube account as requested by my fans. So you can sing along too. Do visit, bookmark and share:

And if you know any unsigned bands/singers/songwriters etc do ask them to check out the competition on Niji Magazine and enter.

Love you all, now go buy some of my music ;)> hehehe xxoxxo

Happy Blog Friday 2/11 xxo

Oh February, such a short month no wonder you fly by. So if you are new to my blog hello and welcome. Blog Fridays is a new practise, it will occur on the last Friday of the month and is a summary of what's happened in that month.

Well I started February with a gig at the Cuban Bar on the 2nd. Nice venue, an interesting mix of audience. I look forward to my next gig at the Cuban bar on the 27 of April. I also had a gig at the Zenith Bar - wasn't thrilled with the sound guy or the glitches that occurred, but the crowd of students that came to support were awesome. As I have quite a few gigs scheduled at the Zenith Bar running through to June, I have been reassured that the sound issues on the night will not be a problem for future gigs as the usual sound guy, should be back by then - Thank God for that is an understatement. :)  I have one more gig scheduled for the month of Feb. It's occurring on the 27th at Bridgehouse 2 - a well known venue for Live performances. I am very much looking forward to that. Do come if you can. Details and to RSVP can be found by clicking HERE.

Oh and make sure when you come to the next gig, you pick up your Candy Rose gig rewards card and get it stamped. ;)>

As you all may know, I have been working on my next release and I posted an exclusive of the Hooked On You Taster yesterday which only fans signed up to Fan mail may access. You can sign up and also listen/download on my Website. I have yet to decide a date for the release but once I do, you will be the first to know.  I may have also found my band - no premature announcements to be made, but once all is definitely confirmed, keep your eyes on my facebook page and my tweets to be informed in real time. But it is a very exciting period. Also if you haven't done so yet, do check out the epic video to Hooked On You (Monster Club Mix) on my Youtube Channel - excellent work by the super talenetd Dulani Wilson of Bluntspear Animation

Another thing you may notice in the coming months is less of me - I know you don't see enough of me as it is, but taking a leaf in the vein of the talented Duffy who is rumoured to be quitting the industry (very tough and very fickle industry lol), I will be spending less time on the music scene and more on my family. I will still be creating Music, but I have achieved the main thing I set out to achieve when I started - A Publishing deal. Huzzah. Fame was never on my agenda, I think of the fame thing as an occupational hazard and a necessary evil required in doing this job. I love Music, I will always be involved with music. So don't despair hehe. I know some of you prefer to send me questions via email, but I have also included a forum on my website where you can chinwag about the music or ask questions etc. So do check it out.

On a completely different note, this is what I've been listening to since it came out yesterday:

Patrick Stump is a musical genius and the coolest, most awesome guy I sort of know. So inspiring yet so humble. So make sure you support by checking out his latest release, the EP Truant Wave. Spotlight is such a Choon.

And don't forget to read the fan mail and help me with my favour ;). Thank you all for the love and support. If you know anyone you think would enjoy my music, just send them to:

iTunes or amazon to begin with.

Love you guys and keep you posted as always.

Blog Friday is here! - 1/11

So I recently (as in Yesterday via fan mail) decided I would start doing a Blog Friday. It will be on the last Friday of every month. This way I would have no choice but to write something every month as I do neglect my blog somewhat. What better way than to do a recap of what's gone on during the month.

So here's what's happened thus far:

I started the year with some radical new changes to my look. Part of my New Year's Resolution which was to cut my lovely lock into a little more fierce and edgy. I also thought it would look great in the photo-shoot I had scheduled with the sensational Music Photographer, Andy Fallon. Now I'm the kinda girl that knows what she wants and goes and gets it. I was absolutely intent on having the blue streaks in my hair for 2011. So here's what happened...

This is me 2010 (Fierce and Fab Picture taken by my very good friend and super talented Ben Warren, whom I look forward to working with again)

To this - No I did not scream or pass out - although the lady was certain I was going to do something as she kept asking "Are you Sure? There's no going back once it's done and you have such lovely hair" Of course I have lovely hair I got it from my mama. So I'm not worried about it's regrowth. :) So we cut my lovely lock and there they are in snippets all over the salon floor.

To this - Picture taken by sensational Music Photographer, Andy Fallon. I think I'm totally rocking my blue hair. And Thank you to those of you that made some good noise about both my new looks and the pics. I really really enjoyed the photo shoot with Andy Fallon. My make up at this shoot was done by Emily Rose.  More pictures from the shoot can be seen on my website in the images... section. Through my Taster Thursday fan mail, I will share pics not on my website with my fans who have chosen to share their email addresses with me as my way of saying thank. Feel free to sign up for the mailing list via my website
 Hello 2011. :)> Grrrowl hehehe

As some of you may be aware, I have been working on my next release, which coincidentally will be my last release from A Rollercoaster Love. Rated 4.5 Stars on iTunes... It must be good huh! So here's an exclusive for you, something I have yet to do anywhere else is post a video of me in action. So I was in the Studio with Gandalf (John Webber) and he thought he'd do a Scorcese with my iphone. This is me working on the song my fan-mail fans got to hear exclusively yesterday; Now I'm Gone - RnB Version.

I am still somewhat camera shy, but I think I'm improving. Hoping when I do finally get round to shooting my first real vid, that it blows your mind. Make it Epic and memorable. In the mean time Enjoy!

If you're wondering why this is not on my youtube channel instead, it's because I believe that only my REAL fans will take the time to come read my blog. So they should be the ones to see me. Sorry the quality is not great, but it was filmed on a phone after all :)>

and yeah, I was trying hard not to laugh out loud.

The other thing I had on my list I wanted to do this year was to book more gigs. I am pleased to announce that I am now booked for gigs all the way through to June - Chuffed. Very Chuffed!

It would be so awesome if you guys can come to some or all of them. I have one coming up on the 2nd of February at The Cuban Bar. More details of this upcoming gig can be found on my website. I kicked off my gigging this year as supporting act to the fab Victoria Aitken at the legendary Half Moon in Putney, and the next day I had a really good gig at The Icarus Club. I look forward my next gig at The Icarus Club in April.

What else happened this month...

I finally activated my Ping and uStream accounts.... feel free to follow both. Not sure when the uStream will become actively used, or the ping for that matter, but as always, keep you posted via my website and fan mail.

There is still one thing on my list I have yet to achieve, which is my band. I held an open audition on the 23rd and did not find the talent I sought... I will be posting another audition date soon. If you know anyone, I'm open to suggestions. Just need guys for my gigs mostly. Do keep your eyes on my Facebook and my tweets. And speaking of tweets, you could not ruin this month for me even if you tried, in fact wondering if anything will top the fact that P.S started following my tweets. Yeah it was definitely a fan-girl moment.... for someone I admire so much to acknowledge my existence... even if it was just a click... dreams do come true :-)>

Thank you all for the love and support. If you know anyone you think would enjoy my music, just send them to:

iTunes or amazon to begin with.

Love you guys and keep you posted as always.
Candy xxoxxo

P.S
Don't forget that 50% of every sale of my song London, from now until eternity, goes to the Charity for Homeless, Shelter. Keep spreading the word so that I may yet make a difference in someone's life through my music. I hope to one day send them a cheque with a at least 3 zeroes. :)>

Thank you.

2010 - I Salute You!

Wow! What a difference a year makes. Yes it's only November and not quite the end of the year - but as I will not be releasing any new material within the next month, nor will I be performing any more shows, figured it's time to stop and take stock.

It's been an amazing year. So much has happened since I started my blog, which used to be aptly titled, "A Reclusive Indie Artist...?" - but I'm not so reclusive anymore and I believe I am finally becoming the Artist I was destined to be. Brace yourself for more witnessing of the metamorphosis that is yet to be seen. I suspect 2011 has quite a lot in store for me... and I like that.

So what exactly happened in 2010 apart from gigging every month?

January I wrote most of my second album

February I released my third single,  It's You That I Love, taken from my debut album, A Rollercoaster Love.

In March, I was featured in 10 Superdrug stores across the U.K - including Birmingham Bullring; and also featured in Vox Africa's London Fashion Week Edition of Afrobuzz

In April had a live Radio Interview with the fab guys at Gravity FM - Nev Eaglen & John Smith

In May I presented my face to the world for the first time, thanks to the fabulous Ben Warren of Papa Bear Photography ; uploaded the music video for It's You That I love to my youtube channel - the video was done by the talented Dulani Wilson of Bluntspear Animation. I also performed my first live gig since releasing my album, at The Comedy Pub.

In June I had my first ever TV interview with Vox Africa's James Sherwood at my gig on the Battersea Barge; and I was later to find out that it was shown internationally on the Afrobuzz show. Great guys and interview and a very good experience. Also in June got featured in the Artist Spotlight section of broadjam.com 's newsletter. A very proud moment for me.

In July I performed at the Buffalo Bar and recorded my single "London"at Turtle Studios with the super talented Peter Turtle - he plays guitar like he was possessed :)> Brilliant.

In August I found out that I had won an award as a finalist on the 6th International Acoustic Music Awards for my song, Tell The World. I was so happy - I still am. To be recognised internationally for my lyrics, my song, my work meant and still means so very much to me. I also released "London" in August and decided to use it to raise money for the homeless at the same time. Being homeless is not a joke and I am speaking from experience. I was not as unfortunate as some of the homeless out there who have no friends or family to turn to, but it was a very scary point in my life. The dreadful feeling of not knowing what's going to happen tomorrow. To have the security of "home", "Roof over my head" taken away - very trying time in my life. I always wanted to do something about that in the future, and now thanks to Shelter and music, I just might be able to.  I have bequeathed 50% of all sales of my song London,  from the date of release until eternity to Shelter - the charity for the homeless and housing in the U.K. So every time you or a friend bought this song, Shelter gets 50% of whatever you paid for it. So do spread the word and pay it forward.

In September I got featured in Niji Magazine who came to what was supposed to be my last U.K gig of 2010 at Fiddlers elbow. Great guys!

In October I prepared for Miami Music Festival and caught up with my much neglected friends.

November  was all about Miami Music Festival :)>

I performed at two venues for the Miami Music Festival, Yuca was the first one and Vinly & Kai the second. I met some and hit it off with some really cool Musicians, Tyne Darling, Alicia Lemke, Maria Zouroudis & Paul Baker. You should check them all out and show them some love/support/like. I really missed Ben Warren of Papa Bear photography on this trip as he would have captured all the high lights and what-nots perfectly. Guess next year I better blag him a ticket hehehe. I also attended the conference for Emerging Artists whilst there and found myself coming home with home work. So much about the work I do, I did not know but needed to know and so glad I had someone to tell me. So grateful to the guys at Miami Music Festival for selecting me in the first place to be part of it. So humbled by it all.

I returned home to London, and performed at what was my REAL last gig of 2010, opening for the fabulous Hils Granger at The Bowery. Brilliant night and what a brilliant band. I had a lot of fun and as always enjoyed performing my song London in London.  even bigger need of support than usual.

I also put A Rollercoaster Love, and Meet You In The Club on SALE on CD baby in the $5.00 CD sales as I want as many of you to be able to get it. Especially as I hope that by the time I release my next album and at my next gigs, you will know the words.

What next before the end of the year? Well I am informed I am to be featured in Urban Mainstream Magazine - will let you know whenever that happens. I also have a photo shoot scheduled with the super music photographer, Andy Fallon - again, will keep you posted. In December, I spend extra special time with my kids, my family and my friends and avoid working as much as possible. So if I go quiet next month, that's why.

To finish, as always, I want to Thank every single one of you that has directly or indirectly played a role in this incredible journey.  I have been constantly humbled by your support and love and the lengths to which some of you have gone to get me heard. I appreciate every single one of you and every little gesture and your words of kindness and encouragement. Thank you all so much from the bottom of my heart. Please continue to spread the words about my music, please continue to call up/text the radio stations with requests for my music, and please continue to say no to piracy I would like to continue creating and spreading Music. And as always will continue to try to change the world one act at a time through my music and with your help. Tell the world about the single London :)>

God bless you all and if I should forget to say this later, Merry Christmas and a fantastic New Year to you all.

Lots of Love,
Candy
